Although it is a good service program running in most Windows machines, spoolsv.exe can also be quite dangerous more so in situations when it is corrupted. This is a common occurrence for this threat which has been traced to Germany and China. It occurs under various forms such as a virus, worm, a Trojan with has a litany of funny names. It is mostly transmitted by email.

Also known as the ‘Windows Print Spooler service’, spoolsv.exe is used in the management of spooled jobs for print. It also manages the queue for pending prints. In relation to these duties, this spooler service is only required for computers that are handling printing jobs. The genuine process has been developed and is supplied by Microsoft along with other software utilities. It is usually stored in the program flies on drive c. It runs as a system file.

When spoolsv.exe occurs as a worm, adware, or in any other form as a threat it is likely to exhibit various features. It may feature a name that closely resembles its original name. The storage however may be changed hence making it appear suspicious. This is in addition to the way that it may run as program or another file other than a system application. If one has suspicions of its existence in the system, they should immediately scan the computer to verify its presence or otherwise.

The operations of the computer are likely to be affected in a number of ways due to an infection from spoolsv.exe. It uses much of the CPU time and space due to the high number of print jobs that will be left in the spool. This could also be a pointer that the printer drivers are outdated. It could be used by an outsider to gain access to the computer. This could also lead to theft of passwords, conducting of Internet transactions without your knowledge. Furthermore, much personal data could be accessed thus greatly compromising the system owner’s security since all these operations happen from remote locations.

While the spooler service is an important program in running and securing your system, one should be on the lookout for any events that could see it posing security to one’s computer. When fake versions are found they should be eliminated. Otherwise, it may cause the machine to be slow. Deleting the genuine program may affect the efficient running of your computer.
