Uninstall mDNSRESPONDER.EXE

mDNSResponder.exe is an open source program that is used by adobe CS3 design program or iTunes to discover servers on local Internet protocol. It requires no configuration of the DNS server or the Internet protocol address as it automatically discovers other computers.

Commonly referred to as Bonjour, mDNSResponder.exe is present in apple’s open software and a computer user may often confuse it with malicious software because they have no recollection of having installed it in their personal computers. The risk that comes with this program is that viruses spread easily within an office setting and the level of privacy reduces dramatically as people across the office can easily access documents from computers that have no security codes. The bonjour program acts like a virus mostly by constant pop-ups that could interfere with people working on the computer or by slowing Internet connections.

The program was written by Apple Computer Incorporated and runs in the background although occasional pop-ups are a common occurrence. It slows down the log-in sessions as well as sign off sessions. However, the author says that it is a harmless program intended to lessen the amount of time used in configuring during networking. In itself, the mDNSResponder.exe does not consume hard disk memory, as it comes as part of other programs.

The program is not associated with any hardware but could be introduced to as desktop or laptop computer by gizmos such as PDA’s, IPod, cell phones among others. People who prefer to leave it in their computers have to put up with frequent notifications whenever the program senses new connection ports. Such connection could be from printers, computers, scanners or even small electronic gadgets that have networking capacities.

Uninstalling the Bonjour program requires proper instructions since the program does not have an install/uninstall tab in the control panel. One can get rid of the program by pressing windows+R, then typing ‘cmd’ and then hitting the enter key. This will present the user with the bonjour directory. He/she should issue the following commands

Cd c:\program files\bonjour (enter)
MDNSResponder.exe-remove (enter)
Rename mdsnNSP.dll mdsnNSP.bak.

This should completely uninstall the program from the system. For it to take effect, it is important that one restart the computer. Reinstalling the program requires one to download the bonjour program from apple’s website. Printer manufacturers have adopted the software into their systems, which connects to either airport or Ethernet ports therefore dismissing the IP configuration protocol.
