Quickset.exe is a process that belongs to Dell computers. It allows the user to access power management diagnostics and settings. Quickset loads on Startup and is minimized by default into a System Tray icon as it is not required for your computer to function.

However this process should not be killed unless thought to be causing problems such as high CPU/memory usage etc. The process itself does not use CPU time while waiting in the System Tray, and consumes approximately 2-4Mb to be kept running (which is very little compared to today’s humongous RAM hardware options). Quickset.exe is a legitimate application and it does not appear that there are other processes with similar names to be security risks. The Process Quickset.exe is registered to Dell Corporation and it is part of the Dell Support Software Package.

Its process file path normally resides in this location in a Windows environment:

%ProgramFiles%\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe
(where %ProgramFiles% is the path to the Program Files folder normally found at C:\Program Files. Note that C:\ is the default drive letter. This can be any other letter, according to how many hard disks you have and what drive letter is assigned to that HDD).

Quickset Software comes packaged with your Dell laptop and usually you find it pre-installed on your computer when you first get your computer system. Usually the Windows OS Installation CD that comes with your laptop is packaged such that Dell Quickset installs automatically with Windows. You can find the Quickset program in your toolbar or else you can click Start -> All Programs -> Dell Quick Set. There you can find various settings which can be configured for optimal or as per needed basis. The most important thing that you need to look at is the Power Wizard.

The most important feature in my opinion in Dell Quickset is selecting a Power Scheme. This is because you can decide how to conserve battery life to suit your needs. You can also set various profiles which contain different combinations, for example, if the electricity is cut and your laptop is running on the battery you may opt to switch off monitor in less time, to conserve more resources.

Do not be afraid to use the “Turn of hard drive” and “System Suspend” options. If these configuration settings are turned on, all you have to do is push a button on your keyboard and the system will turn right back on.
