Windows Vista 64 options.ini file issues

Vista 64 is another Operating System from Windows. Equipped with more features and higher security level Vista 64 became popular amongst many computer users. However, Vista 64 does not have the ability to cater to some products or applications that works in lower platform. Since Vista 64 is a newer OS some programs may have compatibility issues and not work with this system.

Command and Conquer Generals is a popular role playing strategy game from Electronic Arts Inc. This game is not supported by Vista 64, which is a problem for gamers who are fond of this game and are using Vista 64 as their Operating System.

To resolve Vista 64 compatibility problem with Command and Conquer game follow this instructions;

  • Secure a legal installer of Command and Conquer game.
  • Install the program. Follow the instructions provided during the installation.
  • Hit the Start button.
  • Select My Documents from the Start Menu.
  • Click on the folder with Command and Conquer Generals Data label.
  • Look for the options.ini file from the Command and Conquer Generals Data folder. Right click on the options.ini file and select delete.
  • After deleting options.ini. Copy these to a notepad:

To go to notepad, select the Start button. Click on the All Programs button in the Start Menu. Another menu will appear select Accessories then select notepad.

  • Save the file as Options.txt in the Command and Conquer Generals Data folder.
  • After saving Options.txt file change the file extension .txt to .ini and close the folder.
  • Restart your computer and your Command and Conquer Generals game will already be working.

There have been reports that options.ini is being mimicked by some spyware. Spyware is a malicious program that stealthily infects computers to gather information and Internet browsing whereabouts of the computer users. It is best to procure an anti-spyware program to remove any possible threat.

However, if you wish to manually remove the options.ini file from your computer, it is best to secure a backup of your files first. Manually removing option.ini file may cause fatal errors to your computer, so it is best to secure a backup through a CD, DVD or any other good data storage.
